Instructional Planning

 

The standard for instructional planning addresses five pillars concerned with data-driven planning, appropriate pacing for content mastery, differentiating instruction, aligning objectives to curriculum and student learning needs, developing appropriate goals, and providing flexible instruction for students. Each aspect of this standard ensures that teachers exemplify reflective teaching practices in order to improve their own instructional strategies and provide appropriate, responsive instruction for students. Using the Madeline Hunter lesson plan model, I have developed lessons and units that aligned with state standards of learning, scaffolded learning to promote student growth, and provided a diverse and inclusive learning environment.


Virginia Standards of Learning
Each lesson that I design aligns with a specific aspect of the Virginia SOLs. Daily objectives are written to outline what students are expected to learn and how they will demonstrate mastery of content during the lesson. My objectives are included in each lesson plan that I design as well as any presentations used in class.

Scaffolded Learning
Each lesson and unit that I design guides students through scaffolded learning. I use Bloom’s Taxonomy and Multiple Intelligences as guides when setting goals for learning, writing objectives, and designing instructional activities. This graphic organizer provides an overview of a scaffolded unit and individual lessons within the unit.

 


Diversified and Differentiated Instruction

My lessons use a variety of activities to reach students with different learning styles. The lesson plan, presentation slides, and worksheet below demonstrate a typical day in my classroom.
